Very expected game when 9th ranked Salon Vilpas (6-12) was smashed on the road by second ranked Loimaan Korikonkarit (12-4) 88-66 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 22 points. Loimaan Korikonkarit dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Salon Vilpas' 34. American guard Jeb Ivey (190-80, college: Portland St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists. Forward Matti Nuutinen (200-90) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Loimaan Korikonkarit players scored in double figures. American forward John Fields (205-88, college: Tennessee) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Roope Ahonen (187-90, agency: FCM) added 16 points in the effort for Salon Vilpas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Loimaan Korikonkarit maintains second position with 12-4 record having seven points less than leader Kataja. Salon Vilpas at the other side keeps the ninth place with 12 games lost. Loimaan Korikonkarit will face UU-Korihait (#7) in Uusikaupunki in the next round where they are favorite. Salon Vilpas will play at home against Torpan Pojat in Helsinki.
