Second Stage Round 8: Lanus - Atenas 67-71

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Atenas (4-4) beat higher ranked Lanus (4-4) in Buenos Aires 71-67 on Friday. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 21-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Atenas made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. American forward Marcus Melvin (203-82, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 8 rebounds. The former international swingman Matias Lescano (196-79) contributed with 17 points and 7 steals for the winners. Atenas' coach Nestor Garcia used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Panamanian power forward Jamaal Levy (206-83, college: Wake Forest, agency: Priority Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and the former international center Diego Guaita (204-83) added 12 points in the effort for Lanus. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Atenas have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with La Union and Lanus. Atenas will face Boca Juniors (#10) in Buenos Aires in the next round.
