No shocking result in a game in Veracruz where second ranked Halcones Rojos (26-5) defeated 9th ranked Correcaminos (15-20) 93-80. Correcaminos were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Halcones Rojos players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Venezuelan power forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86) accounted for 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Halcones Rojos players scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos' coach Eddie Casiano allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Myron Allen (180-79, college: Lee JC) came up with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import swingman Mike English (194-82, college: UMKC) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Correcaminos in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Halcones Rojos. They maintain second place with 26-5 record having five point less than leader Fuerza Regia. Correcaminos at the other side keep the ninth position with 20 games lost. Halcones Rojos' next round opponent will be Huracanes (#6) in Tampico. Correcaminos will play on the road against Halcones UV Xalapa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
