Regular Season Round 16: Trefl Sopot - Anwil 93-72

The game between Top Four teams took place in Sopot. Third ranked host Trefl Sopot (11-4) smashed 4th ranked Anwil (9-5) 93-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Anwil. It looked good early as Anwil took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Trefl Sopot had a 31-15 second period charge getting the lead and Anwil was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-93. Trefl Sopot dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Anwil's 30 and made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Anwil was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by international forward Adam Waczynski (199-89, agency: Limelight Hoops) who scored that evening 19 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Lukasz Koszarek (187-84) supported him with 17 points and 6 assists. Five Trefl Sopot players scored in double figures. Even 21 points by American swingman John Allen (194-82, college: Seton Hall, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for Anwil. The former international guard Krzysztof Szubarga (182-84) added 10 points for lost side. Anwil's coach Emir Mutapcic gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Trefl Sopot have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with PGE Turow. Anwil at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Trefl Sopot will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Anwil will play at home against the league's leader Energa Czarni (#1) in Slupsk and hopes to get back on the winning track.
