There was no surprise in Mikawa where 5th ranked Shinshu BW (9-10) was defeated by third ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (11-8) 93-77 on Saturday. The game without a history. Hamamatsu Phoenix led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. Hamamatsu Phoenix forced 19 Shinshu BW turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh, agency: VVG Sports) who scored 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St., agency: ACMT) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach Ryuji Kawai used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga, agency: Priority Sports) who recorded 20 points and 4 assists and guard Takato Saito (181-85) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively. Four Shinshu BW players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Sendai 89ers and Shimane SM. Loser Shinshu BW keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Hamamatsu Phoenix will face again Shinshu BW (#6) in Nagano in the next round.
