Regular Season Round 21: Chiba Jets - Toyama Grouses 82-83

The most exciting game of round 21 in the BJ League took place in Chiba. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Chiba Jets (9-10) to seventh ranked Toyama Grouses (8-9) 83-82 on Saturday evening. Chiba Jets were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was American swingman Brian Harper (206-85, college: Paine, agency: Pro One Sports) who scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Masashi Joho (183-82) chipped in 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jamel Staten (198-83, college: Minnesota St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals and the other American import guard Maurice Hargrow (193-83, college: Minnesota) added 21 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Chiba Jets' coach Eric Gardow rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Toyama Grouses maintains seventh place with 8-9 record. Chiba Jets lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Shinshu BW. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chiba Jets will play again at home against Toyama Grouses (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
