Regular Season Round 12: Alghero - San Martino 39-64
Date: December 17, 2011
Very expected game when 12th ranked Alghero (3-9) was smashed at home by fourth ranked San Martino (9-3) 64-39 on Saturday. The game without a history. San Martino led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alghero to just 7 points in third quarter. San Martino dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Alghero's 20. It was a good game for point guard Francesca Dotto (170-93) who led her team to a victory with 18 points and 7 rebounds. International power forward Martina Sandri (185-88) contributed with 8 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Bulgarian power forward Radostina Slavova-Naneva (188-86) replied with 14 points and 8 rebounds and guard Cristina Mei (179-85) added 11 points and 5 steals in the effort for Alghero. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Martino maintains fourth position in North with 9-3 record. Alghero lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with nine games lost. San Martino will face Biassono (#14) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Alghero will play against Virtus Cagliari.
