Very important is a home loss of second ranked Start Gdynia (10-4) against eleventh ranked AZS Szczecin (6-8) on Saturday night. Host Start Gdynia was defeated by AZS Szczecin in a tough game in Gdynia 67-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Start Gdynia. It looked good early as Start Gdynia took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then AZS Szczecin had a 14-8 second period charge getting the lead and Start Gdynia was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-74. AZS Szczecin made 22-of-25 charity shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 27 Start Gdynia turnovers and had a 27-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for swingman Krzysztof Mielczarek (198-81) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Forward Marcin Zarzeczny (193-87) helped adding 18 points. Four AZS Szczecin players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Tomasz Wojdyla (201-77) with 18 points and 8 rebounds and guard Grzegorz Mordzak (183-77, agency: Promotex) scored 17 points. Start Gdynia's coach Pawel Turkiewicz rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. AZS Szczecin maintains eleventh place with 6-8 record, which they share with Start Lublin. Start Gdynia at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They share it with Sokol Lancut and MKS DG. AZS Szczecin will play against Olimp MKS Start Lublin (#12) on the road in the next round. Start Gdynia will play against AZS Kutno (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
