Sixth-ranked Helsingborg (4-7) made lots of trouble for top-ranked Malbas (13-0) on Saturday. The visitors from Malmo managed to secure only six-point victory 86-80. However their fans expected much easier game. Helsingborg was tied after three quarters and then recorded another tie at the end of regular time. They were eventually defeated in overtime 12-18s. Malbas forced 28 Helsingborg turnovers. Helsingborg was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Australian guard John Fitzgerald (193-84, college: Lindsey Wilson) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Kosovan forward Gazmend Sinani (203-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Four Malbas players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Bosnian forward Srdjan Vukovic (197-86) who recorded a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and swingman Jonas Christensen (194-78) added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Helsingborg's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Malbas have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position in South with 13-0 record. Helsingborg lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Malbas will face Sanda Basket (#12) in Huskvarna in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Helsingborg will play at home against Fryshuset (#8) in Stockholm and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
