Eighth-ranked Toshiba Thunders (2-20) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (9-13) in Nagoya on Sunday. Mitsubishi Dolphins managed to secure only one-point victory 85-84. However their fans expected easier game. Toshiba Thunders cut a 14-point halftime deficit to tie the game at the end of regular time. But they lost overtime period 10-11. Mitsubishi Dolphins made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Strangely Toshiba Thunders outrebounded Mitsubishi Dolphins 43-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) who scored 29 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). The former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. American center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and guard Yuta Miyanga (183-81) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Toshiba Thunders' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mitsubishi Dolphins have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hokkaido L. Toshiba Thunders lost sixth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Mitsubishi Dolphins will face league's leader Toyota Alvark in Fuchu in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toshiba Thunders will play at home against Panasonic Trians (#4) in Osaka.
