Regular Season Round 22: Hamamatsu P. - Shinshu BW 78-73
Date: December 18, 2011
Rather predictable result when second ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (12-8) won against 6th ranked Shinshu BW (9-11) in Mikawa 78-73. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were ahead by 12 points but lost the second period ending it with a 5-point deficit before their 27-17 run, which allowed them to win the game. Hamamatsu Phoenix brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh, agency: VVG Sports) fired 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international center Atsuya Ohta (206-84) chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach Ryuji Kawai allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga, agency: Priority Sports) produced 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import power forward Lee Roberts (201-87, college: Findlay, OH) added 18 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Shinshu BW players scored in double figures. Hamamatsu Phoenix have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 12-8 record having just three points less than leader Akita NH, which they share with Shimane SM. Shinshu BW at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. Hamamatsu Phoenix will have a break next round. Shinshu BW will play at home against Yokohama BC (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
