Toros (#3) forced the game against Halcones Rojos (#2) into an overtime, but lost by two points 82-84 on Thursday night. The game took place in Nuevo Laredo. But the guests from Veracruz were better at the end. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Toros. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 19-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 14-12. Halcones Rojos made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Venezuelan power forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) who added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Halcones Rojos players scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos' coach Eddie Casiano used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American-Nigerian forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-85, college: SMU, agency: Paris Global Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) scored 7 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Halcones Rojos maintains second position with 28-6 record having 3 victories less than leader Fuerza Regia. Toros at the other side keep the third place with 11 games lost. Halcones Rojos will face Lechugueros (#11) in Leon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toros will play at home against Aguilas Rojas (#13) in San Juan.
