There was an upset in Changchun where higher ranked Bayi Fubang (6-7) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Jilin Tigers (6-8) 90-80 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Jilin Tigers. Bayi Fubang was better in third quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Jilin Tigers forced 19 Bayi Fubang turnovers. Bayi Fubang was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for forward Cheng Zhong (206-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. American power forward Jameel Watkins (211-77, college: Georgetown) helped adding 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Four Jilin Tigers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was international swingman Bo Zhang (199-89) with 19 points and 5 rebounds and guard ZhongGuang Wang (193-87) scored 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jilin Tigers moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Shanghai S. Bayi Fubang lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Jilin Tigers will face higher ranked Zhejiang Cyclones (#5) in Hangzhou in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
