Regular Season Round 16: Clavijo - Girona 77-67

Date: December 30, 2011
There was a surprise result in Logrono where sixteenth ranked CB Clavijo (6-10) defeated higher ranked Girona FC (8-8) 77-67 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by CB Clavijo. Girona FC was better in third quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CB Clavijo had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Girona FC was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Alberto Ruiz de Galarreta (198-83) who helped to win the game recording 24 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and Nigerian power forward Olaseni Lawal (208-86, college: Wayne St., MI) who added 6 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Lawal is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. CB Clavijo's coach Jesus Sala allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Latvian power forward Rolands Freimanis (207-88, agency: Players Group) responded with 25 points and American power forward Thomas Coleman (205-88, college: N.Carolina A&T) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. CB Clavijo moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with CB Tarragona. Loser Girona FC keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. CB Clavijo will face higher ranked Caceres 2016 (#10) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
