Regular Season Round 19: Jiangsu D. - Guangdong ST 96-124
Date: January 1, 2012
Not a big story in a game in Nanjing where 17th ranked Jiangsu Dragons (4-14) were rolled over by second ranked Guandong Tigers (14-4) 124-96 on Sunday. The game without a history. Guandong Tigers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Guandong Tigers forced 24 Jiangsu Dragons turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Guandong Tigers made 7 blocks. Jiangsu Dragons were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward James Singleton (203-81, college: Murray St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 22 rebounds and 4 blocks (made all of his eight free throws). International forward FangYu Zhu (201-83) helped adding 26 points. At the losing side American-Lebanese power forward Jackson Vroman (208-81, college: Iowa St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and American guard Marcus Williams (191-85, college: Connecticut) scored 20 points and 7 assists. Four Guandong Tigers and five Jiangsu Dragons players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guandong Tigers used an opportunity after Beijing Ducks lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Loser Jiangsu Dragons stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Guandong Tigers will face league's leader Beijing Ducks on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Jiangsu Dragons will play against DongGuan Leopards (#5).
