A very interesting game took place in Ashkelon. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 10th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (3-8) to seventh ranked Ironi Ashkelon (6-5) 87-85 on Monday evening. The hosts were ahead by 3 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 31-27 run, which allowed them to win the game. Ironi Ashkelon made 24-of-26 charity shots (92.3 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by swingman Dwayne Mitchell (196-82, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) who scored that evening 25 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and power forward Marco Killingsworth (202-82, college: Indiana, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Even 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) by forward Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Ashdod. Guard Ramel Bradley (188-85) added 16 points and 8 assists. Five Ironi Ashkelon and four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Ironi Ashkelon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Ironi Ashkelon's next round opponent will be league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv and it may be the game of the week. Maccabi Ashdod will play at home against Elitzur Netanya (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
