Regular Season Round 9: Maccabi Ashdod - Maccabi R.Hen 91-79

Round 9 in D1 means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Ashdod where host Maccabi Ashdod (7-0) beat league's leader Maccabi Ramat Hen (6-2) 91-79 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Maccabi Ramat Hen. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Ashdod. Maccabi Ramat Hen managed to win third quarter 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Ashdod dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Maccabi Ramat Hen's 48. They outrebounded Maccabi Ramat Hen 37-20 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Maccabi Ashdod looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was Plenette Pierson (188-81, college: Texas Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Ashley Shields (180-85, college: SW Tenn.St.CC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). At the other side the best for losing team was forward Sequoia Holmes (185-86, college: UNLV, agency: Merit Sports) who recorded 28 points and 7 rebounds and forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) added 15 points respectively. Maccabi Ashdod have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Maccabi Ramat Hen at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Ramat Hasharon. They were replaced at the leadership position by Maccabi Ashdod. Maccabi Ramat Hen will play next round against strong Ramat Hasharon trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Maccabi Ashdod will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv on the road.
