The game between closely ranked teams ended with second-ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix's (13-10) road loss to first ranked Niigata Albirex (14-8) 80-85 on Tuesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hamamatsu Phoenix won third quarter 26-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Hamamatsu Phoenix 48-28 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hamamatsu Phoenix was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated also this game. Power forward Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 20 rebounds. Guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) contributed with 25 points for the winners. Four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Guard Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St., agency: ACMT) replied with 31 points and guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh, agency: VVG Sports) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Hamamatsu Phoenix. Hamamatsu Phoenix's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Niigata Albirex have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-8 record. Defending champion Hamamatsu Phoenix dropped to the third place with ten games lost. Niigata Albirex will face Miyazaki Shining Suns (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite.
