Regular Season Round 14: Valencia - Blusens M. 77-71
Date: January 4, 2012
Very predictable result when ninth ranked Valencia Basket (7-7) beat at home 16th ranked Blusens Monbus (4-10) 77-71 on Wednesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 15 points at the halftime before their 37-16 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Valencia Basket dominated on the defensive end, holding Blusens Monbus to just 3 points in third quarter. Blusens Monbus was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Nik Caner-Medley (203-83, college: Maryland, agency: Priority Sports) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Ukrainian power forward Serhiy Lishchuk (210-82, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 18 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Belizean guard Milton Palacio (190-78, college: Colorado St.) produced 17 points and 7 assists and Gabonese forward Stephane Lasme (203-82, college: Massachusetts) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Blusens Monbus' coach gave the chance to play for eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Valencia Basket moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Cajasol. Newly promoted Blusens Monbus keeps the sixteenth position with ten games lost. Valencia Basket will face Gran Canaria 2014 (#13) in Las Palmas in the next round where they are favorite. Blusens Monbus will play at home against Blancos de Rueda in Valladolid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
