Regular Season Round 20: Beijing Ducks - Guangdong ST 99-112

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Beijing Ducks (14-5) at the home court on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Guandong Tigers (15-4) 112-99. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 14-4 record before this meeting. Beijing Ducks were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Beijing Ducks' 46 and made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Beijing Ducks 42-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Beijing Ducks helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was point guard Aaron Brooks (183-85, college: Oregon) who scored 32 points and 8 assists (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!). Forward James Singleton (203-81, college: Murray St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field). Guard Stephon Marbury (187-77, college: Georgia Tech) produced 35 points (!!!) and 9 assists and power forward Randolph Morris (211-86, college: Kentucky) added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks respectively for the hosts. Five Guandong Tigers and four Beijing Ducks players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guandong Tigers keep a position of league leader. Beijing Ducks at the other side dropped to the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Guangsha L.. Guandong Tigers are looking forward to face TianJin Rongcheng (#15) in Tianjin in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Beijing Ducks will play at home against DongGuan Leopards (#5) and are hoping to win this game.
