There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Assi Ostuni (6-7) defeated at home 8th ranked Fileni BPA (6-7) 87-72 on Thursday. The game without a history. Assi Ostuni led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Assi Ostuni outrebounded Fileni BPA 33-17 including a 25-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Fileni BPA was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Aaron Johnson (172-88, college: UAB) who scored 17 points and 8 assists. Latvian swingman Mareks Jurevicus (198-85) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Four Assi Ostuni players scored in double figures. Assi Ostuni's coach Franco Marcelletti used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Richard McConnell (182-89, college: St.Mary's, CA, agency: Priority Sports) produced 24 points and the former international center Michele Maggioli (212-77) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Assi Ostuni moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Fileni BPA.
