Rather expected game when 5th ranked Peristeri GS (5-5) was smashed by third ranked Panathinaikos (9-1) in Athens 104-69 on Thursday. The game without a history. Panathinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Peristeri GS's 42. Panathinaikos forced 26 Peristeri GS turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Peristeri GS was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Australian center Aleks Maric (211-84, college: Nebraska) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 7 rebounds. International power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis) contributed with 18 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American forward Ernest Scott (201-82, college: Valdosta St., agency: VVG Sports) answered with 15 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) added 15 points in the effort for Peristeri GS. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panathinaikos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiakos and Kolossos. Peristeri GS lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with five games lost. Panathinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panionios.
