Regular Season Round 17: Fabriano - Matera 56-60

Date: January 5, 2012
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Fabriano (5-12) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Matera (7-10) 60-56 on Thursday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Fabriano won third quarter 17-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Matera forced 22 Fabriano turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Andrea Pilotti (196-80, agency: Players Group) who scored 14 points and 6 steals. Naturalized Argentinian guard Sebastian Vico (190-86, agency: Players Group) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. Forward Giorgio Sgobba (202-92) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and power forward Luca Usberti (201-73) added 10 points respectively for the hosts. Matera moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Pavia and San Severo. Newly promoted Fabriano keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Matera will face league's second-placed Orlandina on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fabriano will play against the league's leader Napoli.
