Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Wuber-Est.Bahia (5-6) lost to second ranked Penarol (10-2) in Mar del Plata 80-84 on Friday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Wuber-Est.Bahia won third quarter 14-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Wuber-Est.Bahia was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Facundo Campazzo (180-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. International forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican power forward Ricardo Sanchez (212-87) answered with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American power forward Jerome Meyinsse (206-88, college: Virginia) added 16 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Wuber-Est.Bahia. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Penarol. Defending champion maintains second place with 10-2 record having just -1 point less than leader Obras. Loser Wuber-Est.Bahia dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. Penarol will face again Wuber-Est.Bahia (#10) in Bahia Blanca in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
