No shocking result in a game when first ranked Vikies (9-1) beat one of their biggest challengers Golden Bears (6-4) in Victoria, BC 83-77 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 47-40 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Vikies made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Michael Acheampong orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points. Guard Ryan Mackinnon (193-89) contributed with 20 points and 4 assists for the winners. International guard Jordan Baker (192-91, college: Utah Valley) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Daniel Ferguson (191, college: Valdosta St.) added 26 points in the effort for Golden Bears. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vikies maintains first position with 9-1 record, which they share with Laurier and Lakehead. Loser Golden Bears dropped to the second place with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
