Regular Season Round 23: Nova Ves - Handlova 81-82

The most shocking disappointment of round 23 in the Extraliga was only one-point a home defeat of 4th placed Nova Ves (10-11) to fifth ranked Handlova (11-10) 82-81 in the game for the fourth place. The guests trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 1 point. It was a great evening for American swingman Anthony Jones (194-84, college: Indiana Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 8 assists. His fellow American import forward Sean Hampton (195-75, college: Alders.-Broad.) helped adding 11 points and 7 rebounds. International forward Stanislav Baldovsky (192-89) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Corey Jefferson (183-85, college: Texas St.) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Four Nova Ves players scored in double figures. Handlova have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Nova Ves at the other side dropped to the fifth position with 11 games lost. Handlova are looking forward to face higher ranked Komarno (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nova Ves will play against Levice and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
