Everything went according to plan when ninth ranked Virtus Cagliari (5-7) edged at home 12th ranked Alghero (3-11) 66-63 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 66-63. Virtus Cagliari forced 21 Alghero turnovers. Naturalized Argentinian guard Laura Nicolini (174-75) stepped up and scored 20 points and 4 assists for the winners and power forward Giulia Rulli (185-91) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side Bulgarian power forward Radostina Slavova-Naneva (188-86) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds and guard Cristina Mei (179-85) scored 17 points. Alghero's coach Andrea Paccarie tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Virtus Cagliari. They moved-up to eighth place in North, which they share with Marghera. Alghero lost their ninth game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 11 games lost. Virtus Cagliari will face higher ranked San Martino (#4) in San Martino di L in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alghero will play at home against Pall.Piemonte (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
