There was no surprise in Blaine where 6th ranked Trinity Western (5-5) was defeated by fourth ranked Calgary (7-3) 71-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Calgary. Trinity Western was better in third quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Trinity Western to just 3 points in first quarter. Calgary dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Trinity Western's 22. They outrebounded Trinity Western 43-27 including a 32-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Jessica Franz (185) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Forward Jenna Kaye (168) chipped in 11 points and 8 assists. Five Calgary players scored in double figures. Forward Holly Strom (180) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Sarah Cleveland (173, college: Portland St.) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Calgary moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Trinity Western dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
