A very close game took place in Thunder Bay between Lakehead and Western. Fourth ranked Lakehead (6-4) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Western (3-7). Lakehead managed to escape with a 1-point win 64-63 on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 17-12 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Lakehead outrebounded Western 44-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. Forward Lacey McNulty (188-87, college: Toledo) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and forward Lindsay Druery (185-88) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Lakehead players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Jenny Vaughan (175-90, college: Denver) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and guard Laura Dally (180-92) scored 16 points. Western's coach Brian Cheng rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Lakehead. They maintain fourth place with 6-4 record. Loser Western keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Manitoba. Lakehead will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Western will play against Guelph (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
