Regular Season Round 15: C.de Latte BRE - Ostuni 70-64
Date: January 8, 2012
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Centrale Latte (9-5) won against 9th ranked Assi Ostuni (6-8) in Brescia 70-64. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It looked good early as Assi Ostuni took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Centrale Latte had a 28-16 second period charge getting the lead and Assi Ostuni was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-70. Centrale Latte dominated on the defensive end, holding Assi Ostuni to just 6 points in fourth quarter. They made 22-of-25 charity shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Centrale Latte forced 19 Assi Ostuni turnovers. Strangely Assi Ostuni outrebounded Centrale Latte 44-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was naturalized Argentinian forward Mario Jose Ghersetti (200-81) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider) chipped in 17 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Four Centrale Latte players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Latvian swingman Mareks Jurevicus (198-85) who recorded 13 points and American guard Aaron Johnson (172-88, college: UAB) added 12 points and 5 steals respectively. Centrale Latte moved-up to second place, which they share with Giorgio Tesi PT and Enel Brindisi. Newly promoted Assi Ostuni dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Centrale Latte's next round opponent will be Sigma Barcellona (#6) at home. Assi Ostuni will play against the league's second-placed Tuscany Pistoia.
