Regular Season Round 22: Shanxi Zh. - Zhejiang CB 128-110

There was an upset in Taiyuan where higher ranked Zhejiang Cyclones (12-8) were defeated by tenth ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (10-9) 128-110 on Sunday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Shanxi Zhongyu's pressure prevailed and they won that period 41-29 extending their advantage to 18 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Zhejiang Cyclones' 48. Shanxi Zhongyu had a 36-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Zhejiang Cyclones were plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. Swingman Marcus Williams (201-86, college: Arizona, agency: Interperformances) scored 49 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (made all of his fifteen free throws !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) chipped in 30 points and 16 rebounds during the contest. Four Shanxi Zhongyu players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard J.R. Smith (198-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 57 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and power forward Josh Boone (208-84, college: Connecticut) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Shanxi Zhongyu moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Xinjiang F.T. Loser Zhejiang Cyclones keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Shanxi Zhongyu will face bottom-ranked Jiangsu Dragons (#17) in Nanjing in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zhejiang Cyclones will play on the road against Bayi Fubang (#14) in Ningbo.
