Regular Season Round 3: Blumenau - Maranhao 58-89

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Blumenau (1-3) was outleveled at home by eighth ranked Maranhao (1-4) 89-58 on Monday. The game without a history. Maranhao led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Blumenau's 38. Maranhao forced 20 Blumenau turnovers and outrebounded them 48-29 including a 40-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maranhao made 8 blocks. It was a good game for international swingman Iziane Castro Marques (183-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Center Milena Santos (188-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Maranhao's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Lais de Sousa (176-87) answered with 18 points and Cuban forward Yulianne Rodriguez (185-82) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Blumenau. Maranhao left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Basquete Clube. Loser Blumenau keeps the sixth position with three games lost.
