Leader Joensuun Kataja delivered the nineteenth victory on Tuesday night. This time they beat 7th ranked Salon Vilpas (9-14) 75-67. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-11. But Salon Vilpas won third quarter 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Pro One Sports) stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and international guard Petri Virtanen (183-80) chipped in 12 points and 8 assists. Four Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Emmanuel Holloway (188-86, college: Illinois St.) responded with 23 points and 7 assists and the other American import forward John Fields (205-88, college: Tennessee) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds. Salon Vilpas' coach Mikko Tupamaki tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Joensuun Kataja have a solid series of three victories in a row. Joensuun Kataja maintains first place with 19-4 record. Salon Vilpas at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 14 games lost. Joensuun Kataja will meet at home KTP-Basket (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Salon Vilpas will play against LrNMKY in Lappeenranta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
