Date: January 11, 2012
The biggest surprise of round 13 in A1 was guest Panathinaikos' (11-1) road victory over their biggest opponent Kolossos (10-2) 81-71 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Kolossos. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Kolossos managed to win third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. International forward Stratos Perperoglou (203-84) fired 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international guard Dimitris Diamantidis (196-80) chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. Panathinaikos' coach Zeljko Obradovic used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Marcus Hatten (186-80, college: St.John's) produced 17 points and 4 assists and the other American import guard Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Panathinaikos have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Kolossos at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Panathinaikos are looking forward to face Aris (#7) in Thessaloniki in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Kolossos will play on the road against Panionios (#4) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
