There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Air Avellino (8-7) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Cimberio Varese (8-7) 94-78 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Cimberio Varese. Air Avellino was better in third quarter 29-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cimberio Varese made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Air Avellino turnovers and outrebounded them 38-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Estonian forward Kristjan Kangur (201-82) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and French forward Yakhouba Diawara (201-82, college: Pepperdine) who added 24 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Cimberio Varese's coach Carlo Recalcati allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American-Spanish guard Taquan Dean (193-83, college: Louisville) responded with 22 points and American-FYR Macedonian point guard Marques Green (167-82, college: St.Bonaventure) scored 14 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Four Cimberio Varese and five Air Avellino players scored in double figures. Cimberio Varese moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Sidigas AV. Cimberio Varese will face Banca Tercas (#16) in Teramo in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
