Regular Season Round 15: TRU - UBC 58-74

Date: January 13, 2012
Very expected game in Kamloops where 9th ranked Thompson Rivers (5-6) were defeated by fifth ranked UBC (7-2) 74-58 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by UBC. Thompson Rivers was better in fourth quarter 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UBC forced 27 Thompson Rivers turnovers. It was a great evening for center Zara Huntley (188-89) who led her team to a victory scoring 18 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Kris Young (183-92) helped adding 16 points and 6 steals (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four UBC players scored in double figures. UBC's coach Deb Huband used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The best for the losing side was center Diane Schuetze (191) with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and guard Jorri Duxbury (170) scored 6 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. The victory was the third consecutive win for UBC. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Thompson Rivers dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. UBC will have a break next round. Thompson Rivers will play again at home against UBC (#4) in Vancouver and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
