Regular Season Round 14: San Martino - Cagliari V. 59-33

Date: January 14, 2012
Not a big story in a game in San Martino di L where 9th ranked Virtus Cagliari (5-8) was outplayed by fourth ranked San Martino (11-3) 59-33 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 59-33. San Martino dominated on the defensive end, holding Virtus Cagliari to just 6 points in fourth quarter and to 13 points in second half. The best player for the winners was point guard Francesca Dotto (170-93) who scored 17 points. Swedish forward Ulla Stjarnstrom (185-87) chipped in 4 points and 9 rebounds. San Martino's coach Jacopo Lodde felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized Argentinian guard Laura Nicolini (174-75) produced 12 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Raffaella Costa (185-84) added 5 points respectively for the guests. San Martino have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in North, which they share with Milano. Loser Virtus Cagliari dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. San Martino will face Milano (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Virtus Cagliari will play against Terme di Cervia (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
