Regular Season Round 17: UBC Okanagan - TWU 56-83
Date: January 14, 2012
Very predictable result when seventh ranked Spartans (6-6) rolled over 14th ranked Heat (2-8) in Kelowna, BC 83-56 on Saturday. The game without a history. Spartans led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Heat's 32. Spartans forced 21 Heat turnovers and outrebounded them 38-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Guard Sean Peter (191) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Kurtis Osborne (198) contributed with 15 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Bret Macdonald answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and Yassine Ghomari added 11 points in the effort for Heat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Spartans. They maintain seventh place with 6-6 record. Loser Heat keeps the fourteenth position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
