Regular Season Round 17: Brock - Western 93-101

Date: January 14, 2012
There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Mustangs (4-8) won against 5th ranked Badgers (7-5) in St.Catharines, ON 101-93 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Badgers won third quarter 29-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mustangs made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. Badgers were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Quinn Henderson (191) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Ryan Barbeau (178) contributed with 21 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Five Mustangs players scored in double figures. American guard Jameson Tipping (196, college: W.Kentucky) answered with 18 points and 7 rebounds and forward Tshing Kasamba (196) added 19 points and 6 steals in the effort for Badgers. Badgers' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mustangs moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Calgary and Waterloo. Badgers lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with five games lost. Mustangs will face higher ranked Lancers (#3) in Windsor, ON in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Badgers will play on the road against Warriors in Waterloo, ON and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
