No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Nova Ves (11-12) beat at home bottom-ranked Vahostav-Zilina (5-17) 96-89 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-15. But Vahostav-Zilina won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Nova Ves shot 62.0 percent from the field and had 28 for 41 from the free-throw line, while Vahostav-Zilina only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Vahostav-Zilina 34-21 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Nova Ves looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. International center Michal Batka (204-87) nailed 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and American forward Andrew Jones (208-87, college: Penn St.) accounted for 15 points and 11 rebounds. Nova Ves' coach Jerzy Chudeusz used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Viliam Kosa (190-86) came up with 22 points and the former international center Ondrej Soska (208-78) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Vahostav-Zilina in the defeat. Five Nova Ves and four Vahostav-Zilina players scored in double figures. Nova Ves moved-up to fifth place. Vahostav-Zilina lost their eighth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Nova Ves will meet at home higher ranked Komarno (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vahostav-Zilina will play against the league's second-placed Prievidza (#2) and hope to secure a win.
