Very expected game in Katowice where 9th ranked GTK Gliwice (7-8) was defeated by fourth ranked AZS AWF K-ce (11-4) 68-63 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 68-63. AZS AWF K-ce forced 19 GTK Gliwice turnovers. Strangely GTK Gliwice outrebounded AZS AWF K-ce 37-22 including 25 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when AZS AWF K-ce made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Tomasz Milewski (202-78) who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Marcin Ecka (184-78) chipped in 10 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. They moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Pogon Prudnik. Loser GTK Gliwice dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. AZS AWF K-ce will face BM Wegiel Stal (#4) in Ostrow Wlkp. in the next round. GTK Gliwice will play at home against HK Zory and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
