Very expected game in Katowice where 9th ranked GTK Gliwice (7-8) was defeated by fourth ranked AZS AWF K-ce (11-4) 68-63 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 68-63. AZS AWF K-ce forced 19 GTK Gliwice turnovers. Strangely GTK Gliwice outrebounded AZS AWF K-ce 37-22 including 25 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when AZS AWF K-ce made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Tomasz Milewski (202-78) who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Marcin Ecka (184-78) chipped in 10 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four AZS AWF K-ce players scored in double figures. GTK Gliwice's coach Jacek Adamczak tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for AZS AWF K-ce. They moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Pogon Prudnik. Loser GTK Gliwice dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. AZS AWF K-ce will face BM Wegiel Stal (#4) in Ostrow Wlkp. in the next round. GTK Gliwice will play at home against HK Zory and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
