Regular Season Round 19: Matera - San Severo 78-75

Date: January 15, 2012
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Mazzeo San Severo (8-11) was edged on the road by fifth ranked Matera (8-11) 78-75 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-12. But Mazzeo San Severo won second period 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Matera made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Matera especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Andrea Pilotti (196-80, agency: Players Group) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points (made all of his eight free throws). Naturalized Argentinian guard Sebastian Vico (190-86, agency: Players Group) helped adding 18 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side guard Riccardo Marzoli (190-89) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds and forward Giovanni Fattori (202-85) scored 18 points. Matera moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Mazzeo San Severo. Matera will face Casalpusterlengo (#4) at home in the next round. Mazzeo San Severo will play against the league's second-placed Trieste and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
