Second Stage Round 15: Penarol - GECR Indalo 89-80

Very expected game in Mar del Plata where 12th ranked GECR Indalo (5-10) was defeated by second ranked Penarol (12-3) 89-80. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But GECR Indalo won fourth quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 25 personal fouls committed by GECR Indalo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for the former international forward Marcos Mata (202-86) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. International forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Sergio Hernandez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Cedric McGowan (198-85, college: Cincinnati, agency: Court Side) answered with 21 points and the other American import forward Edward Nelson (203-82, college: Connecticut, agency: Dream Team Management) added 17 points and 10 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) in the effort for GECR Indalo. Defending champion maintains second place with 12-3 record behind leader Obras. GECR Indalo at the other side keeps the twelfth position with ten games lost. Penarol's next round opponent will be Boca Juniors (#10) in Buenos Aires and are hoping to win another game. GECR Indalo will play on the road against Wuber-Est.Bahia in Bahia Blanca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
