Regular Season Round 17: St.Francis X. - Dalhousie 62-60

Date: January 18, 2012
The most exciting game of round 17 in the CIS took place in Antigonish. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Dalhousie (2-7) to fifth ranked St.Francis Xavier (5-5) 62-60 on Wednesday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-9. But Dalhousie won second period 21-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when St.Francis Xavier won last quarter 16-15. St.Francis Xavier outrebounded Dalhousie 42-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was center Kirsten Jones (183-89) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Vanessa Pickard (180-92) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Guard Rachael Harrison (168-87) produced 16 points and guard Anna Von Maltzahn (180-91) added 8 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Dalhousie's coach Anna Stammberger rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. St.Francis Xavier moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Cape Breton. Dalhousie lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
