Regular Season Round 16: Breakers - Tigers 91-77

Date: January 19, 2012
The game between Top Four teams took place in Auckland. Second ranked host New Zealand Breakers (13-5) defeated 4th ranked Melbourne Tigers (9-11) 91-77. New Zealand Breakers players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. The winners were led by American power forward Gary Wilkinson (204-82, college: Utah St.) who scored that evening 21 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) supported him with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. Even 18 points and 6 rebounds by the former international forward Liam Rush (202-82) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Tigers. The former international swingman Daniel Dillon (194-86, college: Arizona) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Five New Zealand Breakers and four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Zealand Breakers have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Wildcats. Melbourne Tigers lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with 11 games lost. New Zealand Breakers will play against Kings (#7) in Sydney in the next round where they are favorite. Melbourne Tigers will play on the road against Wollongong Hawks in Gwynneville and hope to get back on the winning track.
