Everything went according to plan in Winnipeg where fourth ranked UBC (9-2) outscored 11th ranked Manitoba (3-10) 75-38 on Friday. The game without a history. UBC led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Manitoba to just 2 points in first quarter and to 11 points in first half. UBC dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Manitoba's 22. UBC forced 21 Manitoba turnovers and outrebounded them 50-20 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Center Zara Huntley (188-89) scored 20 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Kris Young (183-92) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Allison Balasko (180) with 6 points and 6 rebounds and forward Maria Pawlyshyn (175-89) scored 7 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. UBC have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Manitoba lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with ten games lost. UBC will face Winnipeg (#7) on the road in the next round. Manitoba will play against Victoria (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
