No shocking result in a game when third ranked Thunderbirds (10-2) edged 11th ranked Wesmen (4-10) in Winnipeg, MB 74-73 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Thunderbirds dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Wesmen's 26. They outrebounded Wesmen 39-18 including a 25-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minnesota St.) saved the victory by scoring 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Swingman Kamar Burke (196-86) contributed with 9 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Thunderbirds' coach Kevin Hanson allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Andrew Cunningham (186, college: Redlands CC) replied with 17 points and 8 assists and forward Mark McNee (198) added 21 points in the effort for Wesmen. Thunderbirds have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Loser Wesmen dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
