Regular Season Round 3: Al Arabi - Al Rayyan 82-95

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Al Arabi (2-1) in Doha on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Al Rayyan (3-0) 95-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Arabi. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 2-0 record before this meeting. Al Rayyan looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Al Arabi's players. The best player for the winners was international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) who scored 42 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. The former international center Saleem Abdullah Mohammed (202-82) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Abdulai Jalloh who recorded 30 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and American swingman William Byrd (201-85, college: Ark.-Pine Bluff) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Four Al Rayyan and five Al Arabi players scored in double figures. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Gharrafah. Al Arabi at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. They share the position with As Sadd. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Gharrafah.
