Regular Season Round 17: Clermont - Souffel 75-83

Date: January 21, 2012
Very expected game when 15th ranked Stade Clermont (5-12) was defeated at home by third ranked Souffelweyersheim (12-5) 83-75 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 28-22. But Stade Clermont won second period 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was naturalized Chadian forward Jacques Alingue (201-88) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Jessie Begarin (190-88, agency: Court Side) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Souffelweyersheim players scored in double figures. Guard Bianco Matanga (188-87) produced 19 points and American forward Jonathan McClark (200-77, college: Rider) added 17 points respectively for the hosts. Souffelweyersheim have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 12-5 record having just two points less than leader Charleville. Stade Clermont at the other side keeps the fifteenth position with 12 games lost. Souffelweyersheim will face league's second-placed Saint-Quentin on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Stade Clermont will play against Le Puy ASMB (#16) in Le Puy en Velay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
