Regular Season Round 17: Blois - Chartres 66-64

A very interesting game took place in Blois. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 12th ranked Chartres (8-9) to fifth ranked Blois (11-6) 66-64 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Chartres cut a 18-point halftime deficit to two at the end of the game. Blois brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. 27 personal fouls committed by Chartres helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Finnish forward Ville Kaunisto (204-82) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds for the winning side and guard Gary Staelens (189-84) accounted for 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Guillaume Merie (198-83) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Serbian center Ljubomir Avramovic (201-79) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Chartres in the defeat. Chartres' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Blois moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Cognac and Orchy. Chartres lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth position with nine games lost. Blois' next round opponent will be Etendard de Brest (#10) at home which should be theoretically an easy game. Chartres will play against Orchesien BC in Orchies.
